We have now learned that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is anticipating nationwide disruptions tonight due to staffing shortages at several major air traffic control centers. Centers that potentially could be impacted include Chicago, Nashville, Houston, and Las Vegas. Officials have said that the shortages are occurring amidst the ongoing government shutdown and will likely lead to increased flight delays, reroutes, and ground stops overnight. Joining LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall to learn more is Randy Klatt from the Foundation for Aviation Safety.

We also learned yesterday from FOX 11 Los Angeles that Hollywood Burbank Airport in Southern California operated without any air traffic controllers for nearly six hours.

"In a job that's already stressful, this shutdown has put way more stress on our controllers," said Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy during a press conference Monday. "So we're tracking sick calls, sick leave, and we had a slight tick up in sick calls, yes. And then you'll see delays that come from that."
