11:19Now PlayingDemolition started Monday at the White House to begin building President Donald Trump’s ballroom. A 90,000-square-foot, glass-walled space is being added to accommodate 999 people, up from an approximate 200-person capacity in the East Room, which is currently the largest room in the White House. Jeff Mason is a White House Correspondent for Reuters and he got the opportunity to ask Trump about the ongoing construction project. He spoke with LiveNOW’s Mike Pache this evening.
Trump said Wednesday that the ballroom will cost $300 million, which is up from the $200 million figure that was initially talked about. Plans call for the ballroom to be ready before Trump's term ends in January 2029. Dramatic photos of the demolition work showed construction equipment tearing into the East Wing façade and windows.
