4:04Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump has pardoned Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, the founder of the Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange. He served our months in prison after pleaded guilty to charges of enabling money laundering in 2023.
“Deeply grateful for today’s pardon and to President Trump for upholding America’s commitment to fairness, innovation, and justice,” Zhao said on social media Thursday.
Zhao also has ties to World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture launched by Trump and his sons earlier this year.
Trump was asked Thursday about the pardon during a roundtable event at the White House. "I don't know him, I don't believe I've ever met him," Trump said. "A lot of support, he had a lot of support. They said that what he did is not even a crime, it wasn't a crime. That he was persecuted by the Biden administration and so I gave him a pardon at the request of a lot of good people."
