The shutdown began Oct. 1 after lawmakers failed to reach a funding agreement. House Democrats, led by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, met to discuss potential suspensions for SNAP benefits.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul was one of 26 attorneys general and governors who joined a coalition to file a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Secretary Brooke Rollins. Attorney General Raoul said the group is planning to seek a temporary restraining order requiring the court to immediately restore SNAP benefits.
