4:27:50Now PlayingHurricane Melissa is now the strongest storm of the year. The category 5 storm, which is packing maximum sustained winds of 175 mile-per-hour winds as of Monday, is expected to slam Jamaica this week. Michael Brennan, Director of the National Hurricane Center, provided an update on Monday.
According to the NHC:
"CATEGORY 5 MELISSA NOW MOVING NORTHWESTWARD WHILE WARNINGS ARE ISSUED FOR THE BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS...CATASTROPHIC AND LIFE-THREATENING WINDS, FLOODING, AND STORM SURGE EXPECTED ON JAMAICA TONIGHT AND EARLY TUESDAY..."
