10:12Now PlayingWe are learning more as a landmark trial continues in Los Angeles Superior Court as a plaintiff’s attorney accuses tech giants Meta and Google of "engineering addiction" in minors. The case was brought by a Northern California woman identified as K.G.M. and is reportedly seen as a benchmark for hundreds of similar lawsuits surrounding the mental health impacts that social media could have. At this point, it still remains unclear how the jury will weigh the responsibility of the corporations against the efforts made by parents to regulate usage. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking about the trial and the role that parents play in all of this with Jon Schweppe who is a Senior Advisor at the American Principles Project.
"This case is about two of the richest corporations in history who have engineered addiction in children's brains," attorney Mark Lanier recently said to jurors. "I'm going to show you evidence that these companies built machines designed to addict the brains of children, and they did it on purpose."
