21:09Now PlayingWe are now getting an update after Air Canada Express Flight 8646 collided with a rescue vehicle while landing at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday around 11:45 p.m., resulting in the deaths of both pilots and injuring over 40 others. Many passengers were hospitalized and several remain with serious injuries. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on social media, saying, in part: "I have been briefed on the tragic collision that took place at LaGuardia Airport late last night." Officials are currently speaking alongside local leaders including Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul and United States Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy.
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading an investigation into the crash, with teams currently on the scene with additional investigators expected to arrive later Monday. According to early reports, LaGuardia Airport reopened around 2 p.m. as federal investigators continue to work to determine what led up to the incident.
