Location: As of January 22, 2025, the Hughes Fire is actively burning in the Castaic area of Los Angeles County, California. The wildfire ignited earlier today near Lake Hughes Road, north of Castaic Reservoir Road, and has rapidly expanded to over 9,000 acres with 0% containment.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for residents in the Castaic Lake area due to the immediate threat posed by the fire.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is assisting with evacuations and road closures to ensure public safety. Currently, no injuries have been reported, and no structures are immediately threatened in the predominantly rural and mountainous burn zone.
Firefighters from the Angeles National Forest, along with CAL FIRE and local agencies, are actively responding to the blaze. Aerial resources, including multiple helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, are conducting water and Phos-Chek drops to slow the fire's progression.
Despite these efforts, the fire has crossed Lake Hughes Road, complicating containment strategies.
