Wisconsin politics, Francesca Hong, the DSA and the growing revolt against establishment Democrats reveal a party facing an internal crisis it can no longer dismiss.

Luke examines why socialist and progressive candidates are gaining support as younger voters lose faith in the Democratic Party’s centrist leadership. The establishment still sees itself as the unquestioned center of Democratic politics, but its commitment to an outdated status quo has left much of the base demanding new leadership.

The discussion explores the failures driving this insurgency, including affordable healthcare, college costs, labor protections, Gaza and the party’s inability to effectively confront MAGA. Progressive candidates may have their own vulnerabilities, but simply warning voters about the risks of challenging the establishment is no longer enough. For many voters, “vote blue no matter who” has reached its limit.

Luke also addresses whether declining confidence in the American right could reduce political polarization. He argues that mass deportations, attacks on immigration and reactionary economic policies do not solve the country’s real problems. Instead, they threaten construction, healthcare, innovation, tax revenue and the long-term survival of programs such as Social Security.
