My guest today is Samo Burja, founder of Bismarck Analysis, a consulting firm that investigates the political and institutional landscape of society. Samo is also a Senior Research Fellow in Political Science at the Foresight Institute, and chair of the editorial board of Palladium Magazine.
We spoke about falling birth rates: why this represents such a challenge to democracies, why third world countries are going to be particularly badly hit by the economic consequences of dysfunctional demographics, and why Samo thinks that AI is not going to solve this problem. We also spoke about the mystery of it all, the fact that no one knows exactly what is causing falling birth rates worldwide, although we did talk about a couple of good ideas, including a theory that relates to mortality rates, which I think is currently the most plausible.
