as posted by the channelMichigan was the last major primary state before Super Tuesday. President Joe Biden easily won his party’s primary in Michigan, but the results showed that he has cause for concern in his bid to win re-election in the swing state in November.
An “uncommitted” vote in Michigan’s Democratic primary was the first indication of how backlash over President Biden’s handling of Israel's war on Gaza might impact his reelection campaign. Michigan has the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the nation.
The “Listen to Michigan” campaign organized the push to get 10,000 "uncommitted" votes to show the significance of that number since Trump won by less than 11,000 votes in 2016. More than 100,000 voters marked “uncommitted” on their ballot in the Democratic primary. That could be a concern in a state Biden won by less than 3% in 2020 and likely can’t afford to lose this year.
Much of the “uncommitted” vote was expected to come from the east side of the state, in communities such as Dearborn and Hamtramck, where Arab Americans represent close to half of the population.
