7:15Now PlayingCalifornia Governor Gavin Newsom has signed three important laws to help and protect LGBTQ kids. These laws include mandatory training for school staff on LGBTQ issues, a special team to focus on LGBTQ student needs, and keeping gender and sex identifier changes private. This is to help with the rising mental health problems among LGBTQ teens, with 70% facing anxiety and 57% experiencing depression, according to the Trevor Project. Experts Melanie Willingham-Jaggers from GLSEN and Ammani Rupert-Gordon from the National Center for Lesbian Rights talked with Marc Lamont Hill on theGrio about how these new laws can help students and give advice to parents on making safe, supportive environments.
