Marcellus Williams was wrongfully convicted, yet remained hopeful, even in his final moments, declaring "Alhamdulillah" – praising Allah. His death is a grim reminder of America’s long legacy of racial injustice, from slavery to mass incarceration, to state-sanctioned murder.
Marc Lamont Hill, a leading Black scholar and activist, calls on us to turn our grief into action, to fight for the abolition of the death penalty, and ensure Marcellus is the last person executed in this unjust system. Let this moment serve as a wake-up call to dismantle the structures that continue to oppress our people.
