20:37Now PlayingAt Malcolm X’s 100th birthday celebration hosted by the Shabazz Center, Lauryn Hill delivers a soul-piercing tribute that flips the script on performative masculinity, calling for real, whole Black manhood rooted in love, accountability, and self-respect. Introduced by Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, she honors Malcolm X not just as a revolutionary, but as a loving Black man who protected Black women and uplifted his family.
She challenges today’s brothers to heal their trauma instead of repeating it, demanding a return to divine balance between Black men and women. Then, Lauryn Hill lights up the stage performing classics from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, including “Lost Ones” and “Everything Is Everything.” She closes by leading a powerful rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Brother Malcolm.
