Chicago is looking more like a war zone than the Windy City. Under Operation Midway Blitz, federal immigration agents have been accused of firing tear gas at peaceful protesters, journalists, and bystanders, despite a court order banning it. U.S. District Judge Sarah Ellis says her directive has been “ignored,” and she’s now requiring every agent to wear body cameras while interacting with the public.
In just five weeks, ICE says more than 1,500 people have been arrested across Chicago and the suburbs. Families have been raided, workers have disappeared, and even U.S. citizens have been caught up in the chaos. Officials claim they’re targeting “the worst of the worst,” but the reality looks very different.
Rep. Jonathan Jackson, who represents Illinois’s 1st District, joins Marc Lamont Hill. Together, they examine how the federal government’s immigration crackdown has turned into an occupation, and what it means for democracy, civil rights, and the rule of law.
