In this episode of ASCENDING with APRIL R. SILVER (host), we’re doing a deeper dive into why Black women, more than any other racial group, are killed by men they know.
Six months ago (October 2025), the National Institute of Health stated that the “murder of Black women in the United States (U.S.) is a major public health concern that has received minimal attention. Black women in the U.S., including Black transgender women, are at increased risk for murder, including but not limited to intimate partner homicide (IPH) and homicide by police, relative to their White counterparts.”
Our featured guest, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt, is a trusted and seasoned activist and educator in the movement to end men's violence against girls and women. He returns to ASCENDING for an insightful conversation about the layers, the expressions, and the impact of misogyny and why that too frequently rises to the level of violence and murder.
In original episode 59, Silver and Hurt are just scraping the surface of this never-ending movement, particularly as it relates to Black women.
