In late 2024, I was invited to examine and handle the Grand Admiral's baton of Karl Dönitz, the commander of the wartime German Navy, and the last leader of Nazi Germany. Here is the story of how it ended up in a museum in the UK, and also of the existence of two other similar batons with interesting back stories.
