The ambushers were a swarm of Messerschmitt 410 Hornets, twin-engined, heavily-armed 'bomber destroyers' trying a new tactic: destroy the Allied bombers at source - at their bases in England. What followed was an aerial massacre...
This video is a tribute to the 30,000 US airmen who died on operations flying from British bases against Germany, something to remember on this 250th birthday of the United States.
