This memorial , and burial ground is very sacred, and I’ve never heard this shared before…
This place holds a profound history, showing where the slave ships started and how over 1,432 Africans were rescued in Key West.
Standing at this memorial, we see the main parts where slave ships departed, including Sierra Leone, my wife's homeland. It's a stark reminder of the past, honoring over 300 Africans who passed away.
It's incredible to learn that efforts were made to send 1,000 Africans back to Liberia. This part of history was new to me and deeply moving. Let's continue to educate ourselves and remember these stories.
