The CV9035’s 35 mm Bushmaster III cannon is one of the most powerful infantry fighting vehicle weapons currently fielded in the West, giving the CV90 platform a level of firepower that begins to overlap with light tanks while still retaining its infantry transport role. Unlike older autocannons that rely on recoil or gas operation, the Bushmaster III is a chain driven externally powered weapon, meaning an electric motor cycles the action, greatly improving reliability and reducing the likelihood of catastrophic jams during combat. Chambered in the powerful 35×228 mm NATO round, the cannon delivers a major leap in lethality over traditional 20 mm, 25 mm, and even many 30 mm systems through a combination of higher projectile mass, greater muzzle velocity, and larger explosive payloads.

The weapon can fire a wide range of ammunition including APFSDS armor piercing rounds capable of penetrating many armored vehicles and older tanks from side aspects, high explosive incendiary rounds for infantry and structures, and advanced programmable airburst munitions designed to detonate above trenches, behind cover, or near drones and helicopters. One of the system’s biggest advantages is its dual feed mechanism, allowing the crew to instantly switch between ammunition types depending on the target without reloading, giving the vehicle tremendous flexibility in fast changing battlefield conditions.

Although its cyclic rate of fire is lower than some Russian autocannons, the Western philosophy behind the CV9035 emphasizes accuracy, stabilization, thermal targeting systems, and first round hit probability rather than sheer volume of fire. Fully stabilized and integrated with advanced fire control systems, the gun can accurately engage targets while moving across rough terrain at extended combat ranges. The Bushmaster III was also designed with future growth in mind, as many variants can be upgraded to the larger 50 mm SuperShot configuration with relatively modest modifications. Altogether, the CV9035’s 35 mm cannon transforms the vehicle from a simple troop carrier into a highly lethal armored combat system capable of engaging infantry, fortifications, drones, helicopters, armored vehicles, and even threatening heavier tanks through attacks on weaker armor areas and critical external systems.
