12:54Now PlayingWhether from Herodotus, Diodorus Siculus, Voltaire or others, you may have heard stories of a mythical queen known as Semiramis. All of these are more fiction than fact. However, it is possible that these stories were actually based off a real queen of Assyria named Sammuramat (also spelled Shammuramat). She was the wife of one king and the queen mother of another, the latter position which would force her to take a leadership role in as Queen Regent of Assyria, which at that time possessed the largest and most powerful empire of its day and quite possibly made her the most powerful woman in the world.
