One of my favorite parts of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is when a killer rabbit attacks. But did you know that 4 years after that movie came out, a rabbit attacked the President of the United States of America?

On April 20, 1979, President Jimmy Carter was out on a boat, fishing near his hometown of Plains, Georgia, when a rabbit jumped in the water and started swimming toward him. In order to prevent the rabbit from swimming too close to his boat, Carter splashed at the rabbit with a paddle.

When Carter later told the story to his staff, they didn’t believe him

However, a White House photographer had actually taken a picture of the whole ordeal and later the media had a great time covering it, with some joking that he was attacked by a “killer” rabbit.

The Jimmy Carter rabbit incident, as it’s now called, was the Let’s Go Brandon of its time, with political opponents using it to make fun of him.
