Good news! If you want to run for public office here in the United States, you’ll probably not face any opposition. In the last general election, just one person sought an elective office in 7 out of 10 races. That’s the highest number of uncontested races in one election. EVER.

You heard that correctly. 7 out of 10…70% of all elections…were completely uncontested. In 70% of all American elections, there was only one person to choose on the ballot.

90% of elections in Alabama were uncontested.

Ballotpedia looked at 76,768 elections across the country and found that 70% of these elections apparently were not competitive enough for a political party to invest in. In other words, they were uncontested because it didn’t seem like any opponent had a chance in hell to win.

As you probably guessed, the vast majority of these uncontested races were in LOCAL elections. Looks like it’s time for you to get out there and run for office.
