Mehdi Hasan also pressed Phillips on the recent killings of over 274 Palestinians in an operation aimed at freeing four Israelis hostages. While condemning the hostage situation, Mehdi asked if the toll of civilian casualties were acceptable.
"It's not an unacceptable price. But I think it's a price that has to be paid." Phillips responded.
"Why aren't all lives equal?" Mehdi challenges.
They also debated U.S. complicity in war crimes, whether Democrats value Palestinian life, and Phillips’s own failed presidential bid earlier this year.
