Reflecting on his own family’s immigration to New York City — Mamdani presents America as an ongoing project, noting everyday Americans are the nation’s greatest resource, pushing an effort to bring the country closer to democracy, liberty and equality.
Mamdani also notes that America has always been one of contradiction, tracing the experiences of Indigenous people, enslaved Africans, immigrants and more amidst the Trump administration’s efforts to push anti-immigrant sentiment to the American public.
