I had THE most fun doing this painting. Everything about it, from beginning to end was a total blessing.

For those that aren't aware, I do a painting around this time of year to celebrate the resurrection, the very event that transformed the world and defines our Christian faith. Every year on Passion week my family watches Pilgrims Progress and American Gospel. In particular, the song choice for this painting and crown of thorns is a nod to American Gospel 2: Christ Crucified, where the atonement is passionately defended. I've had the idea for this painting since watching it for the first time.

"In Christ alone who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live."

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.- Acts 4:12

Fun facts:

1.) The crown of thorns in the beginning was a last-minute thing when I planned the painting. I was just going to paint the whole Canvas black but then I decided that it might be fun to do a negative space image and just paint over it.

2.) Painting with my hands was unplanned as well. It's a good day when there's paint on my hands! Plus it is easier to maneuver the paint that way.

3.) This is my first time ever using glow in the dark paint and it's really fun!

4.) The song is by Shane and Shane and is very purposely chosen to connect the idea of the painting. There are two versions of the song and I edited them both together.

5.) The splatter of the stars was my favorite part.

6.) The mess on my hands can be symbolic of the message of the painting with the song: We're dirty. He cleanses us.

7.) The last image of the video says it all.

I hope this blesses you as much as it was a blessing to make!
