13:28Now PlayingA bill, SF 225, permitting liquor stores to conduct sales on Sundays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, came before the Senate Commerce Committee Monday, February 25. According to the bill author, Sen. Roger Reinert, DFL-Duluth, Minnesota would join 38 other states in allowing Sunday and holiday sales.
Reinert explained the bill permits stores to be open on the specified days, but it does not require it. He said consumer research shows that Minnesota residents between 25 and 50 mainly shop on the weekends, twice as often on Sundays than Saturdays.
Opponents to the measure argue that Sunday sales will not generate enough revenue to justify the costs of selling on Sunday.
