8:02Now PlayingPresident Obama recently visited the nation of Laos in Southeast Asia to acknowledge the deadly legacy of what has become known as the CIA’s Secret War. The Minnesota Memorial to Special Forces in Laos was dedicated Saturday, June 11, on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol. The memorial is a tribute to the men and women who served in alliance with the United States Armed Forces during the Secret War in Laos from 1961 to 1975.
The United States Secret War in Laos supported the Royal Lao Government against the Patheo Lao in order to prohibit traffic along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. During the war, the United States heavily bombed Laos with over 580,000 bombing missions. The war displaced hundreds of thousands of Laos civilians.
