18:10Now PlayingCiting increasing rates of catalytic converter thefts, Senator John Marty, DFL-Roseville, revealed legislation Thursday, February 11, to disincentivize thefts of the automotive emissions-control devices in Minnesota. SF 890 would clarify how catalytic converters can be bought and sold. The measure would also eliminate cash transactions and require proof of ownership.
According to Marty, the proposal will give law enforcement the tools they need to investigate crimes and gather evidence. “What we want to do is get at the other end where the police have grounds to stop the people who are the thieves. We know they’re the thieves because they’ve [the police] seen them, and they hear later all the people in that neighborhood lost their converters,” he said.
