14:30Now PlayingFormer Senator Bob Lessard, who championed several outdoor initiatives -- the constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to hunt and fish; dedicating sales tax revenue to enhancing natural resources -- appeared before the Senate Environment Committee Wednesday, February 23, in support of SF 2766, which would restore revenue generated through the sales of lottery tickets for hunting and fishing resources, parks and trails.
In 2000, the legislature enacted a law that dedicated a portion of lottery tickets sales to funds supporting the outdoors. The amount was reduced during tight budget times, when funds were needed to enhance the general fund. SF 2766, sponsored by Senator Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, would restore the original, higher percentages of lottery revenue for the environment and natural resources.
The bill was advanced to the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Finance.
