22:13Now PlayingSenator Julia Coleman, R-Waconia, and Rep. Jordan Rasmusson, R-Fergus Falls, propose a plan to expand paid family and medical leave to more Minnesotans. The pair announced the proposal at a Capitol press conference Monday, March 21.
Coleman said that small businesses are at a disadvantage because many large businesses are able to self-finance the benefit. The plan would allow insurance companies to create products that businesses can purchase on behalf of their employees. It would be up to each business to decide the level of coverage and cost-sharing available to employees. The bill would also provide a tax credit of up to $3,000 per employee to small businesses who offer a plan.
SF 3885 was later presented to the Senate Commerce Committee and was forwarded to the full Senate on a divided voice vote.
