Tuesday, on a vote of 68-64, the House passed a measure to create a paid family and medical leave program. The Senate is expected to take up the bill in the coming days. Senator Alice Mann, DFL-Edina, a physician and sponsor of the Senate bill, joins Shannon to describe the rationale for a payroll-funded plan.
Also in the program, the Senate passes the omnibus tax bill and a bill to legalize adult-use cannabis, both on 34-33 party-line votes. Plus, a bill to designate a portion of Highway 5 in Chanhassen for Minnesota icon Prince will soon be a reality.
