Last summer, the State of Minnesota unveiled a Climate Action Framework, laying the groundwork for better resilience in the face of climate change. Senator Nick Frentz, DFL-North Mankato, chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities, Environment and Climate Committee, joins Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to talk about some of the climate resilience initiatives in the state’s next two-year budget.

In May, the United States Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of Minnesota woman Geraldine Tyler in the case of Tyler v. Hennepin County. Hennepin County sold her condo to recoup property tax debt, then kept the additional proceeds from the sale, rather than return the remaining equity to the homeowner. Senator Warren Limmer, R-Maple Grove, is sponsor of a bill that would repeal the law that allows this practice, and he joins Shannon to explain.

The Health and Human Services budget for the next biennium directs $3.5 billion of the state’s budget surplus towards initiatives intended to improve the lives of children and families. Senator Melissa Wiklund, DFL-Bloomington, chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, joins Shannon to describe some of the provisions in the new law.
