They say to make money, you have to spend money, and that could be why the Senate Jobs and Economic Development Committee received elevated budget targets over the next few fiscal years, despite a tight state budget. Committee members tell Senate Spotlight's Veronica Marshall that this session, they focused their resources on getting back to the basics and investing in people.

Senator Susan Pha, DFL- Brooklyn Park, explains how crucial small businesses are to the state's economy, and how initiatives like the Small Business Assistance Partnership Program help them succeed.

Senator Rich Draheim, R-Madison Lake, discusses his efforts to help smaller communities reach their redevelopment goals, such as creating a grant program for tax-stressed cities to demolish blighted structures. Senator Draheim also shares his ideas on how to save taxpayers' dollars when it comes to working with nonprofits.

And voters have made their choice! Following a special election, we now know who will fill the Senate's open seat to represent District 6.
