28:31Now PlayingSenator Erin Maye Quade, DFL-Apple Valley, has heard stories about how artificial intelligence (AI) has hurt Minnesota's children, consumers, and healthcare patients. Now, she's introduced a series of bills she hopes will protect those demographics by regulating AI.
But there are also concerns that too many restrictions can create roadblocks for tech companies hoping to operate in Minnesota, driving away businesses. Senator John Jasinski, R-Faribault, argues that when it comes to autonomous vehicles, Minnesota can’t afford to let that happen. He says driverless technology could significantly expand accessibility, and lawmakers must strike the right balance between encouraging innovation and ensuring stability.
Online gambling is illegal in Minnesota, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening here thanks to certain legal loopholes. Senator Jordan Rasmusson, R-Fergus Falls, has introduced Senate File 4474, a bipartisan bill which would ban online dual-currency sweepstakes games. Senator Rasmusson says the ban would protect consumers, but critics disagree.
Meanwhile, supporters offered testimony for two bipartisan bills related to data‑center development and public information during a hearing of the Senate’s State and Local Government Committee. Senate Files 4296 and 4379 would ban municipalities from signing non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) in certain situations and require them to hold public hearings before approving data-center projects.
