28:51Now PlayingWith expenses for everyday living continuing to rise, the Senate put forth several solutions aimed at lowering the cost of living for Minnesotans this session. With that work finished and those bills now signed into law, relief is on the way.
Utility bills are one area where Minnesotans are feeling a financial pinch. Senator Nick Frentz, DFL-North Mankato, says his Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate Committee included several cost-saving measures in this session's omnibus energy bill - such as allowing homeowners to install plug-in solar panel systems, commissioning a study on constructing new nuclear power facilities, and reaping in the rewards from investing in green technologies.

Rising housing costs are another financial hardship many Minnesotans are facing. Senator Zach Duckworth, R-Lakeville, authored a bill that gives residents more flexibility when it comes to buying investment properties - a move that could not only make the process more affordable for buyers, but could also expand the state's stock of rental properties, creating more affordable housing opportunities for renters.
Another smart way to save is by securing the money you already have with enhanced protections. Senator Duckworth also explains his work to strengthen consumer protections by offering banks new anti-fraud measures.
Meanwhile, members retiring or not seeking re-election said their fond farewells from the Senate floor - and while they may have been separated by diverse political stances, many offered the same parting wish – for next session’s Senators to honor each other’s differences and viewpoints in the pursuit of a stronger Minnesota.
