You can’t always just throw money at a problem and expect it to get better. Sometimes you have to delve deeper. This experience was eye opening. Out of respect, I didn’t post any of the footage where we talked to the homeless members of the community or the footage where we saw and learned about the drug problems. But this experience opened my eyes to the many layers of problems and struggles that underprivileged people face that the news won’t show you.

And even beyond that, I had no idea how hard it would be just to find some water to drink. Or a place to wash my mouth. While we were homeless, we knew we had to do something. So we spent some time buying and distributing water-bottles and granola bars to the community as some temporary relief.

Now, we have begun talks with some of the local shelters and rehab centers to see how we can get involved. And remember if you want something to happen you have to take action and just do it, don’t wait for someone else’s permission. So after seeing what people need on a day-to-day basis, we decided to create care packages for the homeless community in Detroit.

The packages will have tooth brushes and tooth paste, water bottles, a flyer that has basic budgeting tips and the contact information for local drug rehab centers and shelters, and they will have restaurant gift cards so people have the opportunity to eat a hot meal, get something to drink, and get out of the sun. Plus, all the gift cards are from local Detroit restaurants so this we can support local businesses as well. And don't forget we have a free ebook on investing. Get Richer Sleeping: Investing 101
