Encroachments and urban development have upped flood risk in areas surrounding rivers such as Oshiwara and Mithi, according to a recent study by professors at IIT Bombay.
According to the study, between 1996 and 2009, the built-up area has increased by nearly 75% thereby increasing the chances of flood hazards in these areas.
