Question: My mom sold her house to her sister. Her sister (my aunt) has given me my share to me through cheque. Do I have to pay tax on that?

Answer: Capital gains is calculated on consideration received less cost of acquisition. Since the consideration is paid as a share, you should be liable to pay capital gains.
