4:57Now PlayingGreen Activists in Bengaluru have been irked by a road-widening project by The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) that requires the uprooting/translocation of 71 trees.
The BBMP’s project is the widening of the Jaimahal road, the land for which has been acquired from the Mysore royals. It is reported that the Royals have demanded a compensation of Rs 1,500 crores from the BBMP which is at par with the market rate of the land. The BBMP has stated that they will not be able to pay the amount and have applied for Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) to support the claim.
