2:51Now PlayingChennai's first underground metro service was inaugurated yesterday. The 7.4 km stretch starts from Thirumangalam and runs till Nehru Park. The Chennai Metro Railway plans to issue only smart cards at Rs. 100 each to commuters for the stretch from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park.
The project was started back in 2012 and is now open for public. The service was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswami and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu.
