Sushma Devi, the newborn's mother reportedly took the baby first to the district hospital, but she was turned away & referred to the Women's Wing of the hospital. At the women's wing, she was told that there are no beds available. The mother claims that she wasted 3 hours on this, during which the infant's condition worsened, & she died. The chief medical superintendent of the hospital has been suspended, and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the head of the women's wing.
