This was based on a plea which was filed by Facebook. The Tamil Nadu government which had originally asked for Aadhaar to be linked to Facebook to prevent cybercrime and track anti-national activities. The State government now is being represented by our Attorney General K. K. Venugopal. Facebook had opposed the proposal saying that their WhatsApp platform is already encrypted and a tracking Aadhaar would lead to a breach of privacy.
We ask - Is Aadhaar-Social Media linkage a solution for nabbing any criminals operating through these platforms? Will linking Aadhaar to Facebook help check fake news?
