The unprecedented violence occurred after Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy's nephew Naveen posted a very controversial message on Facebook. In his social media post, he criticised Prophet Muhammad. The mob started to gather outside the Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy's house. The Mob even vandalised public property.
