YouTube Description
as posted by the channelBMC orders reviews of private hospitals due to rising COVID death count
Mumbai’s increasing COVID case fatality rate which stands at 5.5% has emerged as a spot of worry for the BMC. It is two and a half times higher than the national average of 1.99% and the state’s average which is at 3.42%.
Data indicates that in the month of June, the death rate was 3.7% which rose to 5% by month-end and its constant since then.
BMC in its initial investigation has found out that private hospitals have seen an increase from 15% to 23% in the last one month alone.
So a plan has been set up by a BMC where all the private hospitals & nursing homes will be monitored. Their daily death toll will be taken and the end of the week's top ten hospitals will be selected where maximum COVID deaths have taken place. BMC then will speak to the doctors to know the exact cause and curb the ratio accordingly.
BMC is going to look at parameters like whether any lapses in treatment, referred late by a nursing home, etc.
There are 33 private hospitals and 42 nursing homes where COVID patients are treated.
Mirror now spoke to Private hospitals and experts who say a couple of factors behind this.
1. In the last one month, an increase in the death count has been as at least 40% occupied beds are by people from MMR. Few of them come at a critical stage and end up not surviving.
2. People who have co-morbidities and majorly a 60 plus age group.
With this, BMC plans to bring the case fatality ratio to 1% in a few weeks.
