Police Commemoration Day 2020 was held today on Wednesday, 21 October. Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the parade. The parade is held in order to remember and honour the brave policemen who lost their lives while serving the country.
National Police Commemoration Day is held every year on the same day. It is observed in order to honour the policemen of Chinese firing in 1959.
The incident took place on October 21, 1959, in Ladakh where Chinese troops opened fire and threw grenades at Indian soldiers. Out of the 20, 10 troops attained martyrdom whilst other 7 suffered injuries. Ever since, the ceremony is help to honour these men.
