The State Law and Justice Department was directed by Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Nana Patole to prepare a draught bill that provides voters with an option to exercise their franchise on ballot papers along with electronic voting machines (EVMs).
On Tuesday, Mr. Patole called for a hearing of a petition filed by one Pradip Uke with the State legislature's office, arguing that such a law could be enacted under existing constitutional provisions and required only an initiative by the State legislature.
Article 328 of the Indian Constitution and Article 37 of the State List of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution grant the State legislature the right to draw up legislation on the manner in which elections are held within the State. To know more, watch the full video!
