The use of convalescent plasma therapy for treating Covid patients was removed from the government's Clinical Management Guidelines on Monday. The ICMR-National Task Force for Covid-19 held a meeting last week in which all participants agreed that convalescent plasma should be removed from the guidelines due to its ineffectiveness and improper usage in many situations. The task force "revised" the Clinical Guidance for Management of Adult Covid-19 Patients, and "dropped convalescent plasma (off label)."
Plasma therapy had already been shown to be ineffective in many other international trials. Indeed, some scientists believe that the use of such plasma may have aided in the spread of new, dangerous virus mutations.
