Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress leader, urged that GST be removed off all life-saving drugs and equipment used in the fight against the new coronavirus, ahead of the 43rd Goods and Services Tax (GST) meeting scheduled for today. On Twitter, the Congress leader attached a list of GST rates that apply to 15 items ranging from alcohol-based hand sanitisers, hand wash, soaps, cotton masks, PPE kits, COVID-19 vaccine, Remdesivir and other COVID drugs, ventilators and artificial respiration devices, and said that collecting taxes from the affected people is cruel and insensitive. The 43rd Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting is being chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman through video conferencing today.
