In May, nearly 9,000 children in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar tested positive for Covid-19, raising anxiety among state officials. The Uddhav Thackeray government has taken notice of the worrying increase in instances and has urged the district administration to develop a strategy to address the problem. The state government has instructed the Ahmednagar administration to establish dedicated wards for children in private hospitals and to guarantee that needed medicines are available. Almost a hundred children are asymptomatic. Anticipating a third wave of the epidemic, which will disproportionately affect children, the government last week directed the public health department to form a pediatric task group of experts to make required preparations.
